Blackshore House
Overview
Perfectly positioned in that sweet spot where coast meets country, Blackshore House is a recently refurbished gem of a find. Sleeping eight guests across four stylish bedrooms, and with sociable spaces both inside and out, it’s made for special occasions or easy escapes with family and friends.
Giving off an effortlessly cool coastal... vibe with industrial touches, the open-plan living area centres around a woodburning stove, flowing into a well-equipped kitchen for leisurely breakfasts and laid-back suppers. Two bathrooms keep mornings smooth, while soft linens and calm, curated decor make every bedroom a retreat.
Fling open the doors to a generously enclosed garden complete with suntrap patio, barbecue, and fire pit, because the best conversations happen under Suffolk stars with something sizzling nearby. The village pub's a stroll away, the River Blyth practically beckons for an amble, and Southwold, Walberswick, and RSPB Minsmere are all short drives for your beach-and-birdlife fix. With off-road parking, Wi-Fi, and small, well-mannered dogs welcome on the ground floor, Blackshore House is your stylishly unfussy launchpad for everything brilliant about this corner of England.
Features
Welcome to the finer details of Blackshore House. On arrival, the entrance hall sets the tone, a smart, practical space to kick off sandy boots and stash bags before the real business begins.
You will find yourselves gravitating to the stunning open-plan kitchen and dining area, where a beautifully equipped kitchen flows into a dining space anchored by a gorgeous wooden table for eight. It's the kind of room where breakfast leads into lunch and no one minds in the slightest.

All four bedrooms have been given the same thoughtful treatment with crisp linens, calm yet cool décor, and plenty of storage space to keep it nice. There are two sleek bathrooms, one with a freestanding bath for long soaks and a separate shower, the other a chic walk-in shower room. Finally, there's a super handy utility room tucked away with washer, dryer, and storage for all those practical bits that keep a holiday ticking along nicely.

We fell in love with Suffolk for it's big skies and gentle pace when we started bringing our two young daughters to its open heaths, quiet woods and unspoilt beaches 15 years ago. We found peaceful Wenhaston in 2018, renovating Blackshore House soon after, having the privilege of living at the house for a time. We now live down the road in Woodbridge, but return whenever we can to remind ourselves and our now teenage daughters of its timeless charm.
We love the house for its flexibility; comfortably sleeping eight people whether you're a pair of families, a group of friends or a mix of both. Like we've spent countless hours doing, you can spend your days walking the nearby heaths, cycling through forest trails or lazing on the beaches. Returning to relax in front of a roaring wood burner or relaxing in the garden areas outside.
We hope we've created a home from home that's both peaceful and practical, providing easy-going holidays with a chance to breathe out and experience unique, slow-paced Suffolk living.
The Location
Wenhaston is a pretty village that sits close to Southwold's sandy beaches and is within easy reach of Walberswick, Aldeburgh and Snape, making it an ideal base for exploring Suffolk's stunning Heritage Coast. Southwold is just 6.5 miles away, RSPB Minsmere 8 miles, the market town of Halesworth 3 miles, and Aldeburgh 15.5 miles.
The village café and post office are both located in the Village Hall, with the café open on Saturday mornings serving delicious cakes along with tea and coffee. For a proper meal out, The Star Inn is a cosy village pub set in the rolling... Suffolk countryside, serving good home-cooked food made with local produce where possible. The pub is popular with walkers and cyclists, and hosts beer festivals in its large lawned garden over the late May and August bank holiday weekends. If you venture just a short walk away, you'll find the Blyford Queens Head nearby, or head to Halesworth to discover the Black Dog Café and Deli.
Wenhaston is surrounded by beautiful open countryside and heaths south of the River Blyth in east Suffolk, making it perfect for walking and cycling adventures. The village has its own fascinating piece of history too, the Wenhaston Doom, a medieval wall painting on wooden boards that was uncovered when left out in the rain. With its vibrant community spirit and easy access to both Suffolk's glorious coastline and peaceful countryside, Wenhaston offers the very best of both worlds.
