Bobby’s Lodge
Overview
Just off the high street in the historic market town of Saxmundham, this clever little studio is proof that the best things really do come in small packages. By day, it’s a bright, airy lounge perfect for planning your adventures, by night the high-spec Murphy bed transforms the space into a cosy bedroom. Designed for... solo explorers or couples who don’t mind rubbing elbows, Bobby’s Lodge offers a delicious slice of Suffolk life without the fuss.
You’re perfectly placed in “Sax,” a proper working market town with genuine character. It’s a five-minute stroll to the train station and only a short drive to Aldeburgh’s chic shingle beach and the cultural buzz of Snape Maltings.
Features
Head inside and you might initially wonder if we’ve forgotten the bedroom. That’s the genius of the Murphy bed. Instead of a mattress dominating your floor space, the high-spec bed stays discreetly tucked away, giving you a bright, airy living room to enjoy. When you are ready to crash, simply pull it down for an instant transformation.
The compact kitchen is small but mighty, equipped with everything you need to whip up a breakfast using fresh eggs from the Wednesday market, or to uncork a bottle of wine after a long walk at Dunwich Heath. The bathroom is fresh,... modern, and the perfect spot to scrub off the salty sea air before heading out for dinner.

Welcome to Bobby’s Lodge. As a nod to one of Suffolk’s most cherished heroes, Sir Bobby Robson, I wanted this space to have real character and a genuinely warm welcome. It might not be stadium-sized, but it’s designed to be a comfortable retreat with a big heart. I hope you enjoy the clever use of space, the garden, and exploring the beautiful county he loved so much.
The Location
Saxmundham is a small, down-to-earth market town with a quietly charming vibe. Its high street mixes independent shops, bakeries, and cafés where you can settle in with a good coffee or grab something freshly made for the day’s adventures. Traditional pubs offer hearty meals and local ales, while a handful of relaxed restaurants and bistros serve everything from classic British plates to easy-going Mediterranean-inspired dishes.
Beyond the high street, Saxmundham makes a brilliant base for exploring this corner of coastal Suffolk. A short drive brings you to the artistic hub of Snape Maltings, where galleries, independent shops, and world-class... performances fill the converted Victorian buildings beside the river. Nature lovers can head to RSPB Minsmere for big skies, wild marshes, and some of the best birdwatching in the country. The Suffolk Coast & Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty stretches out all around you, with walking and cycling routes that weave through woodland, heath, and shoreline.
And of course, Aldeburgh is just down the road, all shingle beach, fish-and-chips, galleries, and an unmistakably coastal elegance. Further along, the charms of Thorpeness, Dunwich, and Southwold open up even more possibilities for breezy seaside days. Whether you’re here for good food, good walks, or simply the slower pace of Suffolk life, Saxmundham puts it all within easy reach.
