The Farrier’s Shop
Overview
The Farrier’s Shop is a gloriously sociable Suffolk hideaway with a past that’s far more hardworking than its present. Once an 18th-century farrier’s workshop, this is now a place devoted to good food, good company and doing very little at all. Expect character in spades, plenty of space to spread out, and a layout that’s... been cleverly designed for easy group stays.
Sleeping up to six guests across two king-size ensuite bedrooms and a twin room, the house is ideal for families or friends who want to spend time together without tripping over one another. The open-plan living space is made for lingering — think log fires, movie nights on the big screen, games around the table and doors flung open to the garden when the weather behaves. Add a private garden, a pizza oven hiding in the old forge, and countryside walks on the doorstep, and you’ve got yourself a holiday base with bags of personality.
Set in the charming village of Freston, the location is just as appealing as the property itself. From riverside walks and picturesque pubs (The Freston Boot is across the road) to foodie hotspots like the Suffolk Food Hall, there’s something to suit every mood. Whether you’re feeling adventurous with water sports at Alton Water or fancy a traditional seaside jaunt to Felixstowe, this holiday spot promises a stay filled with variety and fun.
Features
Once the village’s working farrier, this 18th-century building retains its original soul, from quirky features and high vaulted ceilings to its converted forge that now houses an electric pizza oven, but with a thoroughly modern, sociable layout that makes holidays feel easy.
The heart of the home is its light, open living space, sink into the big comfy sofa in front of the wood-burning stove and Smart TV, challenge each other at the games table, or slide open the doors to let the private garden spill in. The kitchen and dining area sit in the cottage’s original section which retaines it... rustic vibe but still has all the mod cons, including induction hob, dishwasher and washing machine, making everything from breakfast to barbecue feel easy.
Sleeping arrangements are flexible and comfortable. Downstairs hosts one king-size bedroom with its own en-suite that includes both a shower and a bath. Upstairs you will find a second king-size bedroom with ensuite, plus a quirky twin room that’s great for children (with charming low beams and a cosy feel). Throughout, thoughtful touches and plenty of space mean everyone can feel at home.
