We here at Curious HQ have picked our brains and come up with ten of our all-time favourite things to do in beautiful Suffolk.
They may not all be obvious but then not everyone loves a show off.
Covehithe. This “Secret Beach” is an absolute showstopper. Unlike her big sister Southwold, Covehithe may be understated but she sure is a beauty. This forgotten stretch is 4 miles north of Southwold but is worth going that extra mile.
Have fun in Felixstowe. And in particular, Beach Street, which is the cool new kid on the block! This award winning destination offers amazing street-food with some shopping thrown in for good measure. One of our faves.
Crabbing at Walberswick. Everybody’s favourite childhood Suffolk memory. Grab your net and bucket and head to the sea wall to catch those crabs!
UFO trail at Rendlesham Forest. Located in the middle of the forest and connected to the 1980 UFO sightings, this walking trail will spark your imagination and get you thinking about all things supernatural. Think ET but less Spielberg!
Shingle Street. Another hidden gem, popular with locals in the know. If it’s peace and quiet you are after then this is the beach for you. A place where you can appreciate the Suffolk Coastline at its finest.
Summer Sundowners at Robertsons River Boat Trips. Based on the River Deben in Woodbridge, Robertsons Boat Yard organise seasonal river boat trips for up to 12 passengers. One of our favourite retreats, The Crows Yard, can be found at this idyllic spot.
Street Food Sundays @ The Table in Woodbridge. This favourite spot of ours can be found right in the heart of Woodbridge. Here you can soak up the vibrant street food atmosphere with different cuisines every week.
The walk-in cheese room @ Friday Street Farm Shop. Wow. If you like your cheese stinky then this is the place for you. Here you will find a large array of cheeses from around the world as well as their much talked about Quince Jelly.
Walberswick Ferry. This traditional, family run rowing boat operates across the River Blyth during the summer. Travelling from Southwold Harbour to Walberswick, dogs, kids, pushchairs and bikes all welcome.
The Fishers Gin Distillery Tour. Here you will have a prime spot overlooking Aldeburgh’s iconic beach. You will be treated to Suffolk’s finest Gin and have a guided tour of the distillery.
Oysters from Pinney’s of Orford. Holidays are all about treating yourself and nothing screams luxury more than these oysters grown on the beds of Butley Creek. You can enjoy them fresh to the table at The Butley Orford Oysterage or get them delivered fresh to your retreat.
