you thought the farmyard couldn’t be chic, think again! The Cowshed, a hand-built, safari style tent sandwiched between a calming lake and an ancient woodland, is delightfully fun and moo-dern. Complete with gorgeously rustic interiors, plush beds, a sumptuous bathroom, and your very own Scandinavian wood-fired hot tub, it's the epitome of glamping done right!
Here at Curious Retreats, we're all about offering more than just a lavish escape; it's about being responsible stewards of the environment too. The Lost Garden Retreat shares our passion for sustainability, taking the time and effort to minimise their ecological footprint – a value we hold dear. Features
The Cowshed is the perfect mix of rustic charm and understated luxury, with cosy cowhides and nostalgic enamelware. With plenty of space for up to six guests, including a king-size bed in the master bedroom, a second bedroom with bunk beds and a fun cabin bed (also king-size) which the little ones (or older ones) will love! And trust us, those beds are like clouds – decked out with soft linens and snuggly throws.
The Lost Garden Retreat is all about kicking back and relaxing, and there are plenty of places to do so! Inside, fire up the wood…
burner and curl up on the large leather sofa or gather round the dining table for a couple of retro board games with the gang. Heading outside you can pop on your swimmers and sink into the Scandinavian wood-fired hot tub while gazing over the lake. Cook up a storm on the BBQ and then roast marshmallows and regale tales long into the night around the fire pit.
And forget roughing it – here, you've got all the modern comforts. We're talking electricity, hot water, and the facilities to whip up delicious meals. Charge your gadgets, style your hair (yep, there’s a hairdryer), and soak up the spa-like vibes of the bathroom with its underfloor heating, clawfoot bathtub, walk-in shower, and lush Plum & Ashby toiletries. Hungry? The kitchen's got you covered with gas hobs, a microwave combi oven, fridge freezer, wine cooler, dishwasher, and all the crockery & cutlery you need.
Convenience is key here, so there is a well-stocked honesty shop on site and a host of gorgeous hampers, luxury extras and wellness activities that can be arranged for your stay.

Rooms
Living / Dining / Kitchen Area
The cosy living space has a large leather sofa, wing-backed armchair, coffee table and wood burner. The dining area has a large dining table seating six guests comfortably. The well-equipped kitchen has everything you need – a gas hobs, microwave combi oven, fridge freezer, wine cooler, crockery & cutlery and even a dishwasher!
Master Bedroom
The master bedroom has a king-size bed with two bedside tables and a chest of drawers.
Bunk Room
The bunk room has a bunk bed (sleeps two), chest of drawers and a small wardrobe area.
The Cabin
Accessed up a ladder and through heart-shaped doors, the cabin has a comfy king-sized bed.
Bathroom
The luxurious bathroom boasts underfloor heating, heated towel rails, a walk-in shower and a hand-painted, clawfoot bathtub. -
Garden
The Cowshed has a private deck overlooking the beautiful three-tiered lake. Here you will find a Scandinavian wooden eco-tub for some serious relaxation, a handy barbeque ready for grilling up delicious meals, and a sturdy picnic table with benches for gathering with friends and family. When the sun sets, gather around the hearty fire pit, where the seating is crafted from timber sourced straight from the surrounding woods, adding some more rustic charm! And for those moments when you crave a bit of solitude and reflection, there are meditation stumps strategically placed by the lakeside, perfect for watching the sunrise or sunset in peace. -
Parking
The car park is approximately 50 metres walk along the stony paths to each tent. There are also decking lights and the switches can be found to the side of each decking. Please do not park your car next to the tents. -
House Rules
Check-in: 4-7pm on the day of arrival
Check-out: 10am on the day of departure
Sorry, no pets, hen, stag or wedding parties are allowed at this retreat.
Extra guests are allowed to visit and stay as long as the number of people per unit does not exceed 6.
There is a small honesty shop on site for your convenience.
Please note there is no Wi-Fi at the retreat.

To build something with your hands, to learn about how best to live and work mindfully, to scour the country for sustainable wares and to bring something to life that is immensely real and special: it has all been a delightful process. We get a huge amount of satisfaction at the thought that our retreat has revived this beautiful, historical land and that it can now be enjoyed by many generations to come.

The Location
The Lost Garden Retreat is located near the small village of Hintlesham, known for its beautiful countryside, with numerous walking trails and footpaths that wander through fields, and woodlands.
Sandwiched between Ipswich and The Dedham Vale AONB you have the best of both worlds; the conveniences of a large town on one side and the beauty of the Dedham Vale, renowned for its gently rolling hills, meandering rivers, ancient woodlands, and picturesque villages, on the other.
